TIME FLIES! VINTAGE AIRPLANE 1ST BIRTHDAY

The first birthday - what a milestone! I can't believe how quickly my little man is growing. I wanted Joe's first birthday party to be a day our family and friends could relax and enjoy. We went in circles for awhile on the theme, but I ended up choosing what I want his future "big boy" room to be. That way, we could recycle all the decorations. And so Joe's "Time Flies" vintage airplane birthday was created. Time literally flew...and who could resist a cutie in an aviator hat?

The decorations were so fun to create. I bought this chalkboard at a flea market and created the sign with chalk markers.

I kept the airplane-theme when choosing the menu. The propellers were a huge hit with all the kiddos!

I made simple chocolate cupcakes with peanut butter frosting. For the propellers, I rolled out mini Tootsie Rolls and shaped them. The center of the propeller is a mini Reese's cup with a dollop of frosting. You can read details on how to make them here. The airplane shelf was a great way to display the cupcakes and will look adorable holding toys in his future bedroom.

For the party favors, I wanted something age appropriate for the babies, toddlers and young kids attending the party. We found aviator rubber duckies online and wrapped them with children's bubble bath. A little something fun for bath time!

Our little pilot LOVED his first taste of birthday cake!

Happy birthday, Joe! We love you!

A big thank you to our photographer avaphotodesign.com for capturing Joe's special day. For anyone thinking about 1 year portraits, consider hiring a photographer to attend your party instead. It was wonderful to actually visit with guests and enjoy all of your hard work!
